Contest rules template

This is the template for the official rules of every Incantory contest. The rules published on a contest's page are these rules with the placeholders filled in (shown here as {{like_this}}). If the contest page and this template differ, the contest page wins for that contest.

1. No purchase necessary

No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win. A purchase does not improve your chances of winning. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.

2. Organiser and sponsor

The contest is organised by [operator legal entity] ("Incantory"). {{#sponsor}}It is sponsored by {{sponsor_name}} ({{sponsor_url}}), which provides the prizes; the sponsor is not responsible for running the contest.{{/sponsor}}

3. Dates

  • Entries open: {{starts_at}} (UTC)
  • Entries close: {{ends_at}} (UTC)
  • Judging ends and winners are announced by: {{judging_ends_at}} (UTC)

Incantory's server clock is the official timekeeper. Late entries are not accepted.

4. Who can enter

  • You must have an Incantory account in good standing and meet the minimum age in the terms of service (13, or 16 where local law requires it). To win a prize you must be at least {{minimum_age_for_prizes}} (18 unless stated otherwise) or have a parent or guardian accept the prize for you.
  • You must live in a place where taking part is lawful. {{excluded_regions}}. The contest is void where prohibited.
  • Incantory staff, judges, the sponsor's employees, and their immediate families and households cannot win prizes.

5. How to enter

  • Enter {{entry_type}} (a make or a prompt) that meets the brief: {{brief_summary}}. {{#required_tags}}Entries must carry the tag(s) {{required_tags}}.{{/required_tags}}
  • Use "Enter" on the contest page or from the make form. Limit: {{max_entries_per_person}} entries per person.
  • Entries must be your own original work (or a properly attributed fork), follow the content policy, and be rated general unless the contest says otherwise. Entries that break the rules are removed without notice.

6. Licence of entries

Your entry stays under the open licence you chose when you published it (see Licensing), plus the service licence in the terms. By entering you also let Incantory{{#sponsor}} and the sponsor{{/sponsor}} feature your entry, your handle and your display name in announcements, on the contest page, on social media and in the newsletter, with credit, for the purpose of promoting the contest. Winning does not transfer your copyright.

7. Judging

  • Entries are judged by a panel of Incantory admins and invited judges, each scoring every eligible entry against the criteria: {{judging_criteria}}.
  • A community vote also counts, weighted at {{community_vote_weight}}% of the final score. Only accounts eligible to vote under the site's anti-abuse rules count; vote manipulation disqualifies the entries it benefits.
  • Ties are broken by {{tie_breaker}} (the judges' score unless stated otherwise).
  • The judges' decisions are final on all matters of judging.

8. Prizes

  • Every winner gets a contest winner badge on their profile and a notification and email when the winners are announced.
  • Prizes cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash, except that Incantory{{#sponsor}} or the sponsor{{/sponsor}} may substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
  • Winners are responsible for any taxes on their prize. We may ask for a declaration of eligibility and, where required by law, tax information before delivering a prize.
  • If a winner cannot be contacted within {{claim_days}} days (14 unless stated otherwise), does not meet these rules, or declines, the prize may go to the next-placed entry.

9. Privacy

We use entrants' data as described in the privacy policy, and to run the contest and deliver prizes.{{#sponsor}} We share a winner's name and delivery details with the sponsor only if it delivers the prize.{{/sponsor}}

10. General

  • Incantory may cancel, suspend or change the contest if something outside its control (fraud, technical failure, abuse) affects its fairness, and will say so on the contest page.
  • By entering, you agree to these rules and the terms of service.
  • Winners' handles are published on the contest page after judging.
